Synopsis

Written in the first person, in this part personal-biography and part "how-to" guide, the author relates his journey from his challenging childhood on reserve to the leadership roles which he took on in his community and beyond.
The book touches on topics such as First Nation citizenship, and the reservation system, and provides grounded suggestion on how readers can take on an active role in their communities, such as volunteeing at community events and communities to running for elected office.
About the Author
Jody Kochego is is a citizen of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation who currently works as a senior policy analyst and political advisor for the Union of Ontario Indians. He became involved in First Nation issues in 1995 as a land-claims researcher, and has continued his community involvement in various capacities. Between 1995-2010, he was the author/co-author of five historical narratives for First Nation communities in Ontario, and has been acknowledged by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation for his work on The Healing Has Begun.
